Penned it as we elected delegates and alternates. Forgot to keep a copy but I think what’s below is pretty close. Although I’m happy it passed, I was even more pleased at the discussion before we voted and the chance to discuss and educate about how bad the proposed bills are. The Resolution: Whereas the Internet functions well as a free and open commons, be it resolved that Congress...

RIP Steve Jobs 1955 - 2011
Somewhere back in the 80s, I started to learn how to use a computer, a PC running DOS. Just couldn’t get it and the frustrated person at the Metro State computer lab finally led me to a Mac. I’m guessing an SE. I never looked back. It was an amazing tool. Thanks, Steve. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Jobs See the full gallery on Posterous Posted via email from...

Bob Garfield has a great piece at his AdAge blog on the whole Facebook-Burson thing (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The ‘Truth’ About Facebook PR Gaffe). In part, he says that Facebook’s current slimy tactics make David Fincher’s film The Social Network look more like reality than fiction. It’s a good read and got me writing. (Thanks, Bob.) Valley Fair's flooded roller coaster
I tweeted this image out earlier with a link to the Secrets of the City site where I found it. But I wanted a bigger picture of it and found one at the MPR story (linked from SOTC). MPR (and SOTC) attributed the image to MN DHS and I decided to try and find the original. “DHS” is the Department of Human Services which seemed an odd place for this photo to start from. I wondered if...

We already have laws in place to deal with infringing content, so don’t buy the excuse that this law is about stopping infringement. The cats are using the toilet
Back in August we started toilet training our cats with the CityKitty system. It’s gone pretty well and for the last several weeks, we’ve not had to deal with a litter box any more. It’s very nice. Except Dia, the white one, only likes to use the toilet for pooping when we are in the bathroom with her. (Peeing in the toilet is no problem, thank god.) This might have to do with...

Viacom vs. YouTube
Google and Viacom (owner of MTV, BET, Paramount, and more) are fighting it out in court with Viacom contending that Google is no longer a “safe harbor” under the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act and must do more to ferret out and remove copyrighted material — like Viacom’s. Viacom is supporting its case with some old emails supposedly proving that Google relaxed...
